According to The Sun, Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva from Sporting Lisbon.
What’s the Story?
Despite having their first offer rejected, Tottenham are expected to thrash out a deal in the next few days for Sporting Lisbon captain Adrien Silva.
The 28-year-old has been chased by a number of Premier League clubs over the last 18 months, most notably Everton and Leicester. However, it looks like Tottenham are now the favouirtes to sign the Portuguese international to provide competition in the middle of the park for Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama.
However, Sporting will not accept anything less than their valuation of Silva, which currently stands at around £26.5million, although Transfermarkt value him at £21.2million.
How good was Silva last season?
Consistent. Adrien Silva featured 34 times for his boyhood club Sporting in all competitions, scoring five times and providing three assists. However, it was his performances for Portugal which truly caught the eye, especially during his nations European Championship victory last summer.
The 28-year-old was one of the key cogs for both club and country over the past year and now looks set to be rewarded with a move to the most competitive league in the world.
Is Silva a good signing for Spurs?
While he is at times inconsistent, Adrien Silva will quickly make himself a favourite with Spurs fans if he continues to show the determination, tough-tackling, fierce mentality that won him so many plaudits in Portugal.
An able deputy for both Dembele and Wanyama, Silva has the quick feet and passing prowess of the former, with the brute strength and will of the latter.
