Two Premier League titles in the last three seasons, an FA Cup and a League Cup thrown in for good measure in recents years but somehow, Man City’s expensively assembled squad, struggles in Europe.
In what is already turning out to be a weird night at the Etihad Stadium with the atmosphere strangely flat, Manuel Pellegrini’s side find themselves 2-1 down to Russian Premier League side CSKA Moscow after a well taken brace from Ivory Coast international Seydou Doumbia.
Prior to kick-off, City were two points behind AS Roma who occupied second spot in the group and had the very achievable goal of overtaking the Italian side come full-time due to Roma playing against Bayern Munich. However, with half-time fast approaching, there’s a very real feeling that Man City can not only forget about the Knockout Round but they can also forget about European football altogether, with their Russian opposition looking good for the Europa League spot.
Why do City continue to struggle in European football’s elite competition?
