Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright wants Roy Hodgson to start Tottenham star Harry Kane alongside Wayne Rooney on Friday night.
Wright believes the Lithuania game at Wembley is the perfect time to blood the 27-goal Spurs striker for the Three Lions, following his recent call-up to the senior squad.
Speaking at Ball Street’s studios on the Vauxhall’s Home Nations Football Show, Wright said: “With the group that we’re in it’s time to blood him in a competitive game and see what he’s about. Let’s see what he can do up front with Rooney.
“I’d throw the Harry Kanes, the Bertrands in there and I’d also like to see what Cresswell can do.”
The striker recently announced he is coming out of retirement to play #OneMoreGame and stressed the importance of attitude amongst the England camp.
With Lithuania able to move as high as second should they claim victory, former England international Wright believes that the players must be on their game at Wembley:
“The attitude has to be right. It’s against Lithuania and I think we are much better than Lithuania and it has to be right and I think it will be.”
England currently sit top in Group E in European Championship qualifying with maximum points from their opening four group games. Scoring eleven goals and conceding just once, they could move a significant step closer to qualification with a win.
“If we keep our tempo up and play at a good tempo into really good forwards that we have got with pace then that’s going to cause them a problem and it just comes down to the finishing.” Said Wright.
“We have got to be really clinical and see them off as soon as we possibly can.”
