Chelsea are thought to be the frontrunners to sign Inter right-back Maicon, according to The Daily Mail.
The Brazil international only has one year to run on his current deal with the San Siro club, and the Serie A side are thought to be keen to offload him to lower their wage bill.
Real Madrid were initially believed to be interested in the South American full-back, but have baulked at Inter’s £6 million valuation of the 30-year-old.
With Jose Mourinho’s men out of the reckoning, Chelsea are ready to launch a bid for Maicon, who they see as a replacement for Jose Bosingwa.
The Portuguese full-back left Stamford Bridge on a free transfer earlier this summer, with Mathieu Debuchy also being speculated as a possible target for Roberto Di Matteo’s men.
However, the France international is also subject of interest from Newcastle, as a move away from Lille seems likely this summer.
