As reported by ESPN, Ashley Young could be set for a Manchester United exit with up to four Premier League clubs in a January chase to sign him, including Ronald Koeman’s Everton.
What’s the word?
Making just two Premier League starts for Manchester United this season, it’s clear Ashley Young isn’t exactly favoured by Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho.
According to ESPN, that’s alerted clubs across the Premier League with Everton, West Brom, Watford and Swansea all interested in his services.
The same sources tell ESPN that Young is happy at Man United despited those limited first-team opportunities but would consider a move away if given permission by Mourinho.
Where will he end up?
We reckon Everton would be the best fit for Young, with the club offering the best chance to get close to his high wages at Manchester United while also giving him that ‘big club’ feeling he’s used to.
That said, Watford would be a homecoming of sorts for Young. The 31-year old midfielder, of course, started his career there and ending it in the same place could be an attractive proposition. Young was exceptional for Watford during the 2005/06 season that saw them get promoted to the Premier League.
Young has made close to 150 appearances for Man United and despite not making the attacking impact many expected, he remains popular with fans, with his versatility and willingness to work for the team coming to the fore in recent years.
