Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Daily Mail reported that Bordeaux striker Josh Maja is amongst a group of players who the Eagles ‘like’ as they look to get down to business in the January transfer window. Now, this name might ring a bell. The south Londoners were incidentally linked with a move for Maja last January as he rejected Sunderland’s offer of a new contract, while Huddersfield and Manchester City were also interested.
However, the former Black Cats forward ended up moving to France, signing for Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in a deal worth £3.5m.
In his first six months at the club, the 21-year-old only scored once in seven league appearances, although the Nigeria international has been far more prolific this season.
Maja has netted five goals in just five Ligue 1 starts, including a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Nimes.
It is intriguing to see that the youngster – who was born in Lewisham – remains on Palace’s radar, and the resurrection of transfer interest in Maja has sparked plenty of reaction from the Eagles fans on Twitter.
A clear theme is evident in the first three tweets from Palace fans on Twitter – all of them have made reference to the club’s prior interest in Maja, and felt that Hodgson and co should’ve done more to land him last year.
One supporter said that Palace should’ve signed him last year before he moved to France, although “faffing around took centre stage” as usual.
Another fan named Aaron said that it’s “absolutely embarrassing” how the Eagles allowed Maja to move abroad for “peanuts” a year ago – it certainly did seem easier to land the forward at the time than it is now given his contract situation.
Elsewhere, Robbie simply added to that theme by saying “should’ve gone in for him when he left Sunderland”.
Elsewhere, this supporter didn’t sound too keen on a move for Maja by saying “it’s a no from me”, although no reason was given for this decision.
‘Lukey’ expressed annoyance at the fact that Palace are targeting a player who they’ve previously had eyes on through the use of a ‘moody-faced’ emoji, while also writing “here we go again”.

Lastly, this supporter said that it’s “hard to believe this happens” as Hodgson revealed that he had never heard of the forward when quizzed on Palace’s reported interest in Maja last January.
In other news, this Crystal Palace target can offer Hodgson something that even Aaron Wan-Bissaka couldn’t…
