Considering the two’s contrasting form so far this term, you would have expected Liverpool to stroll to three points at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
The Reds had won all of their last eight games in the Premier League coming into this match, whilst Manchester United had just one win in five in all competitions, and even that was on penalties in the League Cup against Rochdale. It ended as a 1-1 draw though, and it could have been even worse for Jurgen Klopp’s men had Adam Lallana not scored late on.
Marcus Rashford had put the home side 1-0 up in the first half, and Joel Matip must take a fair share of the blame for that. The 28-year-old Cameroon international was marking the striker, but he lost him at some point, allowing Rashford to slot past Alisson in goal.
