According to BirminghamLive reporter Joseph Chapman, West Bromwich Albion have suffered a setback in talks with young defender Nathan Ferguson over a new deal.

He claims that negotiations between the 19-year-old’s representatives and the club have ‘hit the buffers’ in recent weeks with no significant progress being made.
Albion’s contract offer, which includes a significant increase to his wages, remains on the table ahead of the January transfer window.
The Athletic revealed that the rise is as big as 20 times the amount he’s currently on, at the very least, while it has even been reported that if Ferguson is still toying with a new deal next month, then the Baggies will look to cash in on him.
Chapman also states that Crystal Palace are one team to look out for as they still have a substantial amount of money leftover from their sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United.
Setback
The news won’t come as good news to many at the Hawthorns as several members of the West Brom faithful pleaded with Ferguson on social media to sign a new contract.
In recent weeks, the right-back’s performances have tailed off – it remains to be seen if it is a direct consequence of links to the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid, but he’s not been at the same standard he set early season.

Ferguson has struggled to record above a 6.79 rating in his last two outings, where he has conceded a total of three fouls and has been dispossessed four times, per WhoScored.
The England U20 international is only enjoying his first season in the men’s game having been trusted by manager Slaven Bilic to make the step up during pre-season – he has made 18 appearances this term.
